Legal Team

Jane Becker Whitaker, Born September 17, 1959 in Watertown, WI. Graduated cum laude from Yale University in 1982 with majors in Spanish literature and History and special honors in Spanish literature. Worked for Democratic Congressional nominee in Nevada in 1982, and then as a paralegal in Hughes, Hubbard, & Reed from 1983-84; graduated from New York University Law School in 1987.

Admitted to practice in New York in 1988. Worked for the Criminal Appeals Bureau of the Legal Aid Society from 1987-1989. Worked as an associate for Carlo & Dubos in 1989, admitted to the Puerto Rico Bar in 1990, and became a junior partner in Carlo & Troncoso that same year.

Spent two and a half years working as a Deputy Court Monitor for the Federal District Court in San Juan and then returned to Carlo & Troncoso. When the Hon. Gerardo A. Carlo was appointed to the Bankruptcy Court in 1994, continued with the practice under the firm name of Troncoso & Becker. In 1999, moved to Hato Rey and established Law Offices of Jane Becker Whitaker. Work includes general commercial litigation, class action work, anti trust, and copyright law in both Puerto Rico and New York.

Appointed as counsel in a number of adversarial proceedings in Bankruptcy Court. Represented class plaintiffs in securities litigation against Banco Popular, and in FLSA litigation against Pfizer and BPPR.

Representative clients include Puerto Rico Pharmaceutical, The Associated Press, Madison Ortho, The Systems Group, and CCR International, Inc. [Coco Rico]. Worked on substantial anti-trust litigation for Puerto Rico Pharmaceutical in the Superior Court of San Juan and then in the Bankruptcy Court when El Amal filed for bankruptcy.

Vice President of the Fundación Infantil Ronald McDonald [Ronald McDonald House charities], board member since 1994. Admitted to practice before the State of New York, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, the District of Puerto Rico, First and Second Circuit Courts of Appeals, and United States Supreme Court.

Jean Paul Vissepó Garriga, was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1974. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas in 1996 and in 2000 completed his Juris Doctor at the Pontifical Catholic University in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He then completed a LLM masters degree in intellectual property from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, IL in 2003.

With vast experience in the inner workings of the music industry, he has participated in transactions as well as litigation in the entertainment industry. He has counseled a number of international celebrities, musical artists, publishers, athletes and record labels. Furthermore, he has lectured about aspects of the entertainment industry at various forums and has been part in civil litigation involving complex and high profile intellectual property issues. Well respected among his peers, he has been recognized as one of the most prominent Intellectual Property attorneys in Puerto Rico.

Counsel Vissepó is admitted to practicing law at the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and United States Courts in the District of Puerto Rico, Northern District of Illinois, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit. Since 2005 he is an authorized Notary Public in Puerto Rico.

Before becoming an attorney, he was a tennis prospect and had the opportunity to play at the national junior in the United States and was member of the University of Kansas tennis team. After college was member of the Puerto Rico Davis Cup team for several years before venturing to the legal field.
